The UAH becomes the first Spanish 'five star' university

Domingo, 01 enero 2017

The University of Alcalá is among the best in the world according to the QS Stars international quality accreditation system, which also gives the UAH its highest rating in Teaching, Internationalisation, Employability, Infrastructure, Innovation and Social Commitment.

The University of Alcalá has undergone an international evaluation process within the QS Stars quality assurance system, which assesses the excellence of universities in various areas and in overall terms, giving a rating that ranges from one to five stars. This study takes the largest number of indicators in all the rankings into consideration.

In overall terms, the University of Alcalá has succeeded in achieving five-star status, becoming the only Spanish university to do so and one of the 47 universities in the world that holds this distinction, thereby becoming a member of a group which includes centres as renowned as the Universities of Harvard, Oxford, Princeton and Cambridge, which also have five stars.

The University has improved in all indicators compared to the previous evaluation, which was carried out in 2012. In addition to achieving the highest score in the overall calculation for the study, the UAH has once again received the five stars it achieved in 2013 in the indicators for Teaching, Internationalisation, Innovation, Infrastructure and Social Commitment, has added another five stars for Employability, and it has increased from three to four stars for the Research indicator.

This audit process was based on an independent review of the data and indicators provided by the University, and on the consultancy firm obtaining additional indicators (by conducting a satisfaction survey of students and graduates, measurement of the University's reputation among academics and employers, and research productivity data).

The Vice President of Coordination and Communication, José Santiago Fernández, said that 'the results obtained in this evaluation process are a reflection of the daily work done by our teachers and researchers, administrative and services staff, and our students. We hope this result will enable us to strengthen our international alliances and contribute to raising the profile of the UAH even further'.
The report is available for consultation in the UAH Transparency Portal.
